Ela Kizhi

Specially selected herbal leaves are chopped, heated in medicinal oil along with garlic, grated coconut, lemon, rock salt and compressed into small linen bags. After the body subjected to oil massage for 20 to 30 minutes, this medicinal bags are dipped in hot medicated oil and applied (massaged in a tapping manner) to the body or afflicted area mainly concentrating on the joints for about 20 to 25 minutes. This treatment is suggested for Osteoarthritis, Arthritis with swelling, Spondylosis, Muscle pain, Stiffness, Sports injuries etc.

Podi Kizhi

Powdered roots of medicinal plants are fried and tied in muslin cloth bags and is again heated in warm pan and applied (massaged in a tapping manner) to the body or afflicted area mainly concentrating on the joints. Podikizhi is effective in curing arthritis, paralysis and neuro-muscular diseases.

Naranga Kizhi

A special preparation of lemon based poultice is tied in linen cloth bags. After a warm oil body massage, these bags are dipped in luke warm oil and applied to the recipient’s body. This is indicated in stiff joints, joint pain, inflammation of joints, rheumatism, etc.

Mutta Kizhi

A special preparation egg based poultice is tied in linen cloth bags. After a warm oil body massage, these bags are heated and massaged over the body or the afflicted area. This is indicated in Muscular atrophy, muscular weakness, stiff joints and joint pain.



Kerala's unique contribution to Ayurveda, involves fomentation of the body with a bolus of special rice called “navara rice” cooked in milk and herbal decoction made from roots of “Sida rhombifolia” .This cooked rice tied up in linen bags are dipped in warm milk and herbal decoction and is massaged into the body. This highly rejuvenates the tissues of the body. This relieves Paralytic strokes, debility, rheumatism, joint and muscle pains, back pains (e.g. sciatica, slipped discs), high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, sexual problems such as infertility and nervous weaknesses.


Kati Vasti (Lumbo-Sacral Rejuvenation Therapy)

This is a special treatment for strengthening the lumbo sacral area. After a full body massage for 14 to 20 minutes the recipient is made to lie down in prone position. A circular wall of 2 inch height is constructed in the lumbo sacral ( low back) region in which warm medicated oil is poured gently and retained over for 30 minutes. This treatment considerably increases the circulation in the region, as the medicated oil gets deeply absorbed into the skin and both nourishes and strengthens the muscles, ligaments and nerves. This treatment is very effective in low back pain, sciatica etc.


Shirodhara (De stress treatment)

This beautiful deeply relaxing treatment involves pouring stream of Luke warm oil in a rhythmic manner over the forehead (the 'third eye'). The patient is made to lie down in a specially designed table and after a full body massage for 15 to 20 minutes, luke warm oil is made to flow over the forehead from a height of 2 to 3 inches in a rhythmic oscillatory movement without break for 30 to 40 minutes. It relieves stress, depression, improves memory, encourage sound sleep, pacify and revitalize the mind and body.



Takradhara is a therapy with medicated butter milk in Ayurveda. It can be done either as Shirodhara (pouring the decoction over the head) or the dhara over the entire body.Also in Takradhara treatment buttermilk is poured all over the body. This treatment is also effective in insomnia, chronic headaches like migraine, ear nose diseases, neuropathy and spondylitis.


Ksheera Dara (Milk Decoction on Whole Body)

   Medicated milk bath which helps improve skin condition. It helps reduce burning sensation on the body.


Pizhichil - Sarvangadhara (Medicated Oil on Whole Body)

In this treatment lukewarm medicated oil would be poured over the person's body in a special rhythmic manner (masseur soaks the linen in oil and squeezes it over the clients body.) by two masseurs for 45 -60 minutes. It can be done as a single day course or 7-21 days course depending upon the health condition of the person. Pizhichil is also prescribed for healthy persons as a rejuvenate and preventive treatment. Indication : Spondylitis, Arthritis, Hemiplegia, Nervous disorders, Sexual weakness. (Rejuvenation of skin, nerves and muscles) PIZHICHIL is a relaxing, soothing and rejuvenating treatment with medicated warm oil used in a continuous stream for a definite period for the whole body (excluding head & neck). It is used to effectively treat arthritis, ageing, general weakness, paralysis etc. ‘Pizhichil’ and ‘Sarvangadhara’ are technically the same.


Ayurvedic Deep Tissue Massage

Nasyam (Administration of herbal oil through the nostrils)

It is the therapeutic administration of herbal oils through the nostrils. The fore head, face, neck and shoulders are massaged and fomented after which 2 to 8 drops of herbal oil (quantity and type of oil differs according to the condition of the recipient) is administered in each nostril followed by repeated massage and fomentation. It strengthens the nasal mucosa, throat and all the organs above the collar bone also the mind and intellect. It is highly effective in Mental disorders, Pre-mature graying of hair, sinusitis, head ache, etc. It improves the clarity of voice, perception of smell and taste.



Thalam is the Malayalam name for the treatment procedure of retaining medicines over the center of the head using the help of a tailor-made cap. It is considered to be a shorter and easier version of Shirolepa and in the ancient days it was a treatment prescribed for mental illness. Now it has been re-designed as a mode of treatment for the conditions arising out of modern day life style diseases; Lack of memory, lack of willpower, lack of concentration, etc.

Special ayurvedic oils are mixed with herbal powders are maintained at the top of the head for about 20 to 45 minutes. Usually before any external treatment Thalam is performed.

KeshaSamrakshini (Hair Care Therapy)

KeshaSamrakshini is an Ayurvedic Hair Care treatment for thick, strong glossy hair that helps to make firm hair roots and healthy sclap. Moisturizing and massaging the scalp with herbal oils or juices, nourishes and strengthens the hair roots and promotes hair growth. This special Ayurvedic hair treatment helps to prevent dandruff. An Ayurvedic medicated oil massage followed with a special herbal pack helps to strengthen hair follicles.

This is the application of herbal preparations in paste over the hairy part of the head for 30 to 60 minutes. Ingredients of the paste vary according to the nature of the ailment. Pichu is a palliative treatment for ailments of the head and spine. During this treatment, a long, thick layer of cotton wool soaked with warm medicated oil is applied over the affected area.

The oil is replaced periodically to keep it warm and therapeutic. Pichu, one of the Purvakarma therapies, is considered an effective treatment for diseases of the cranial nerves arising from Vata disorder. This therapy is very effective for degenerative and painful spinal problems.
